Solve the automatic update issue when using Kies

You start the update function of your smart phone Samsung Wave. However during the update, the device crashes due to an ‘Unexpected Error’. Even a restart does not help.

Nothing seems to work when an update process crashes. The slightly problematic programming of the recovery tool prevents anything from being displayed on the computer as well as the smart phone as a result of which

the hassled user gets no messages for seconds or even minutes together – yes of course, even the connection between the two devices seems disrupted although it is very much in place in reality and the restoration process is also very much on. Thus when the yellow triangle displays that the connection is broken, follow the instructions provided by the Samsung management tool (Kies). First disconnect the connection cable, remove the battery from the smart phone for a few seconds and re-insert it. 

Press the keys [Volume], [Camera] and [OK]. An unusual image is now displayed on the phone, namely the ‘Download mode’ note in red font embedded in a blue box. Then reconnect the connection cable and start the Firmware Update normally. Don’t worry if the Samsung tool does not shows the connection. Only the usual progress bar needs to be displayed on the phone that shows the loading status of the new Firmware. If the software is completely loaded, you see the note ‘Firmware update is restored’ and then shortly after that ‘Update has been started’ .

In case of an error when updating Bada, the recommended procedure is of definite help.

Laptop manufacturers are readying models powered by the new Intel Core i5 and Core i7 CPUs. A few brands like Asus already have models to off er and we managed to source a test unit of the Asus N53SV, which is a 15.6-inch powerhouse thanks to an Intel Core i7-2630QM processor, 4 GB of DDR3 memory and a discrete Nvidia GeForce GT540M GPU. Hyper Threading means this CPU can process eight threads at a time, and that’s immense amount of power.

 The exterior is black, and the lid has a brushed aluminium-like finish. The large 15.6-inch display with a native resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels means this laptop is a bit on the bulkier side. At 2.8 Kg it’s not too heavy to carry around, and you get is a nice large keyboard with a separate numeric pad. The keyboard has a good tactile feel and so do the touchpad buttons. A tiny row of buttons above the keyboard control volume and media playback. A key feature is the incredible sound quality courtesy Bang & Olufsen ICEpower. The speakers are the best we’ve heard in a long time. Around the edges, you get four USB 2.0 ports, a card reader slot, HDMI output, Gigabit Etherne ,audio jacks, DVD writer and a switch for Wi-Fi. We were quite surprised to find USB 3.0 ports missing.

 The i7-2630QM is more powerful than the new Sandy Bridge Core i5-2500K and almost as powerful as the Phenom II X6 1055T. It encoded a 1 min MPEG video to H.264 format in just 35 seconds—10 seconds faster than the Phenom II X4 965. The GeForce GT540M is powerful enough to handle Crysis Warhead smoothly at 37 fps in Mainstream mode. The six-cell battery lasted just over four hours under a light load and at reduced screen brightness. Priced at Rs 60,099 along with a laptop bag and mouse, this laptop is a great buy. The one-year global on-site warranty is also a plus point.

BRAG RB11

Although the gaming community is very large in India, branded and custom-built gaming PCs are a rare sight. It’s nice to see brands like Brag that specialize in custom-built gaming machines and home theater PCs. Brag is backed by Prime ABGB, a popular Mumbai-based PC hardware vendor. That’s plenty of power to handle all the latest games as well as demanding applications. The rig is powered by the Corsair TX750W power supply and the hardware is fittted into the white NZXT Phantom cabinet. Brag has used the cable routing provision of the cabinet very well. All the power and SATA cables are neatly tied and routed from behind the right side panel. So there’s a lot of room for air circulation and the installation looks very tidy.

The storage is taken care of by a 1 TB Western Digital Caviar Green and the operating system (Windows 7 Home Premium, 64-bit) boots off a 40 GB OCZ Onyx SSD. The two optical drives round out the confi guration - a Blu-ray ROM drive and a DVD writer. The NZXT Phantom is equipped with a huge 200 mm fan on top, a pair of 120 mm intake fans on the side, and a 120 mm fan on the rear. The speed of the fans can be regulated via sliders on top. The cooling is excellent, but the downside is that the system will be prone to taking in a lot of dust.

The performance of the RB11 is excellent. The boot up and application loading is incredibly fast due to the SSD, and with the HD 6870, you can comfortably play games at 1920x1080 with very high settings and bumped up AA.
