Atdec Levitate Gives Your Monitor a Lift

Your monitor is earthbound no longer, not when it's being held up by the Levitate. Premium computer furniture-maker Atdec has introduced the Levitate, a mounting solution for flat-screen displays that lets even large monitors be tilted and repositioned in seconds. It's launching this week at the biannual ORGATEC trade exhibition this week in Cologne, Germany. 

Besides its good looks, the Levitate offers a cable management system that hides your wires so they don't detract from the stand's attractiveness. The Levitate is made from polished aluminum and stainless steel. Nor surprisingly, Atdec is targeting this to graphic designers. It's also great for collaborative workstations, the company says, where monitors need to be quickly repositioned. You can pick one up in February for $299.

Samsung Galaxy Tab Sells One Million Units

The Samsung Galaxy Tab is selling better than expected. The company set a year-end goal of one million units for itself. Samsung hit that number with a full month left (which, just happens to be the one that Christmas falls in), and is pushing its prediction for 2010 up to 1.5 million.

It’s a big jump over Samsung’s previously announced numbers. Last week, the company announced that it had sold 600,000 units, worldwide. Part of that is, no doubt, due to the fact that the tablet was released in more countries–it’s now available in 64 countries, for a total of 120 carriers. The device has sold 100,000 units in tits first 60 days in the US.

How does all of this compare to the iPad? That device managed to sell more than two million units in its first two months. The Next Web points out that Apple’s tablet didn’t really have much competition when it was launch–though that was no doubt something of a mixed bag for the company which had the difficult job of convincing consumers and reporters that the world needed another screen.

All of that said, Samsung is not doubt quite happy with these numbers, having outpaced its own expectations and established the Galaxy as the number two device in what is sure to become a very, very crowded field in the near future

Intel thinks Brazos Fusion is a good thing

Our sources who obviously work with both Intel and AMD have told us a quite incredible story. The first impression of Brazos in the eyes of Intel is a good one.

Intel likes it and views the Brazos platform with respect, sources who would like to remain anonymous confirmed. This is the first time ever that AMD has something that can make Intel run for its money in the mobile market.

AMD has a CPU with decent battery life and it can make life quite hard for Atoms, as Ontario looks like a more than a decent competitor. AMD has better graphics but at the same time when it comes to Zacate part of market, Intel has a better CPU core. Let’s not forget that Sandy Bridge also gets to the Pentium notebook market segment by mid-2011 and is more than ready to compete with Zacate 18W TDP dual-core parts.

We know that most users will again go for Intel, but again this time around it won’t be a mistake to buy an AMD netbook, especially in the entry level market, as it will be just enough for your everyday work and it will offer quite good battery life.

We only have to see enough products on the market, as AMD was well know for announcing hundreds of designs (remember Puma) and at the end only a few were actually available. Let’s hope they can do better now, and it all starts at CES January 5th and shipping hopefully shortly after.

Methane laptops could be on the way

If there’s one problem with the current generation of laptops, it’s their battery life. And one of the most likely ways to overcome this is by using fuel cells. In addition to providing more power, these cells also have the added benefit of being environmentally friendly, as they utilize methane gas. Traditionally these types of cells have been both too expensive and too hot to be practical, but scientists at Harvard say that may soon change.

According to Shriram Ramanathan, the lead researcher behind the project at the Harvard School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, solid-oxide fuel cells (or SOFCs) may soon be the most common form of power for portable devices. The team has developed a thin SOFC that eschews using platinum, making it both a cheaper and more reliable alternative. This only leaves the high temperature as an issue.

“Low temperature is a holy grail in this field,” Ramanathan told Science Daily. “If you can realize high-performance solid-oxide fuel cells that operate in the 300-500°C range, you can use them in transportation vehicles and portable electronics, and with different types of fuels.”

Research is ongoing, and Ramanathan says that one of the main goals is to find “affordable, earth-abundant materials that can help lower the operating temperature even further.”

The cheapest Android phone available I must say. Micromax is known for more features, less price. This phone is no exception. I am sure that this will sell like hotcakes because of its price. 7k  for Android 2.1 with a 2.8″ touchscreen is good deal. Although the screen is resistive but then What more do you expect from a 7k ANDROID phone?
