Micromax MODU-T

The USP of the Modu Modular handsets is a proprietary port that is designed to fit into various jackets. Micromax has bundled a jacket equipped with a 5 megapixel camera. The Modu T has a 2.2-inch resistive
touchscreen and has been called the smallest and lightest 3.5G enabled handset out there. Despites its size, the phone feels comfortable to use, but having multiple jackets is a little weird. The Qualcomm’s Brew OS uses gesture swipes to access functions, but the UI is sluggish. Although the keypad is large, there is lag, and scrolling through the menu is jittery.

Audio quality is good, but higher frequencies tend to be a little sharp. in FM radio worked well, with decent reception while commuting. With 3.5G connectivity, you’re assured speedy connectivity. The native browser is good enough for basic browsing and IMAP and POP3 email is supported. The camera jacket has very few features, and start up and image processing are slow. Images appear sharp and focused, but moving objects get a bit blurry. Talk time averaged at just about 2 hours. Guinness may have recognized it as the lightest touchscreen phone, but that’s not enough to make it worth buying.

SAMSUNG DUALVIEW ST600

Social networking junkies will love the ST600 for its innovative design and style. With a 1.8-inch secondary display in front, it becomes easy to shoot pictures of yourself with your friends and family. You can also set it to display an animation to make children smile or display a smiley on half shutter press so the subjects know they have to be ready. The front LCD can be activated by tapping on it or pressing the button on top. The ST600 is an upgrade to the ST550.

The resolution has been bumped from 12.2 megapixels to 14 megapixels and optical zoom has been upped from 4.6x to 5x. The internal memory has been trimmed from 55 MB to 13 MB and so has the weight by a good 37 grams to 150 grams. The rest of the features are more or less similar. The ST600 sports a completely touch-driven UI. The back has only a large 3.5-inch capacitive touchscreen. Samsung has done a fantastic job with the UI, which makes the camera very easy to use even for first-timers. In the Auto and Smart Auto modes, the camera automatically detects the scene and uses the appropriate exposure values. The Program mode allows you to set white balance, ISO, metering mode, resolution, EV, etc. There are 12 scene modes and a dual IS mode, which uses a combination of optical and digital IS for steady shots, which is useful in low light.

The ST600 can shoot 720p videos at 30 fps with optical zoom support. We tested the camera indoors and outdoors in various lighting conditions. Colors appeared washed out and the reproduction of details was not up to the mark. The captured videos came through very well though. You can get a compact mega-zoom camera with better performance for much less, but this baby will surely turn heads.

Different ways to Access Control Panel

The Control Panel is a part of the Microsoft Windows graphical user interface which allows users to make settings for many Windows actions, such as changing network, keyboard, printer, regional settings, Performance & Maintenance Settings, Add/Remove Programs etc.

Here are the Different Ways To Access the Windows "Control Panel

1. Click Start, Choose Control Panel from the start menu items

2. Click Start, Click Run, Type Control and press OK.

3. Go to My Computer and type Control Panel in the Address bar and press Enter.

4. You can also access the Control Panel from Windows Command Interpreter(cmd.exe) by just typing the command Control at the command prompt and pressing enter.

5.Type "Control Panel" in search (Win 7)

Hope this helps...

Hide all disk drives.

How to Hide the drives(C:,D:,E:,...etc) in your Computer

This is a great trick you can play on your friends. To disable the display of local or networked drives when you click My Computer.

  1. Go to Start -> Run.
  2. Type regedit
  3. Now go to: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer
  4. Now in the right pane, create a new DWORD item and name it NoDrives (it is case sensitive).
  5. Now modify it's value and set it to 3FFFFFF (Hexadecimal) .
  6. Now restart your computer.
  7. So, now when you click on My Computer, no drives will be shown(all gone...).

To enable display of drives in My Computer, simply delete this DWORD item that you created. Again restart your computer. You can now see all the drives again. Magic..

VIEWSONIC VIEWPAD 10

Unlike most other tablets, the ViewPad 10 is powered by Intel’s Atom N455 1.66 GHz processor instead of the common ARM processors. It comes preinstalled with Android 1.6 and Windows 7 Home Premium. On the connectivity front, there’s a 3.5 mm audio jack, a microSD card slot, a mini-VGA connector and two USB 2.0 ports. The first thing you’ll notice is the ViewPad 10’s size. It’s large and heavy, but it looks
pretty decent. Also, the glossy screen attracts lots of fingerprints and smudges. The Atom processor does run hotter, requiring netbook-like vents on the sides for cooling.

There are three buttons instead of the four that you find on a typical Android device. In this case, the home button operates what would normally be the back button, and the back button acts as the option/menu button. There are no physical volume controls. We aren’t entirely impressed by the build quality. The back panel didn’t fit firmly in place, and the camera isn’t snugly fit in either. It also tends to heat up when charging, and runs hotter while running Windows. The ViewPad 10 runs the outdated Android 1.6 with very minor customization. Windows 7 runs fi ne, but the OS isn’t as intuitive as Android. Linpack throws up a score of 15.6 Mfl ops, which makes it at par with the other tablets of its kind. The 10-inch 1024x600 resolution screen is of decent quality, and is excellent for watching movies. The capacitive touchscreen works fine, but holding down to right-click doesn’t always work well.

We also faced some problems connecting to a Wi-Fi router over distances that most phones have no issues with. The speakers are decent, and both the quality and power are suffi cient. There is no back facing camera, and the front facing camera’s image quality is average at best. The ViewSonic ViewPad 10 is a decent device, but it requires a lot of tweaking before it can be taken seriously. At the price of 32k,It's pretty expensive.

NOKIA C3

The C3 is a sharp looking handset with a comfortable feel and a 2.4- inch TFT LCD. While the keypad might be an issue for people with larger fingers, it’ll take just a few minutes to get used to. What makes it really annoying is the inclusion of two scripts on each key and no distinguishing color for the number pad. It’s horribly cluttered, epsecially if you’re not used to QWERTY. The C3 runs on Symbian S40, and navigating menus is a breeze. There’s a bit of lag while activating some apps though. Music playback is quite good, especially with a good set of earphones, but FM radio reception wasn’t too good while commuting. Video capabilities are limited to 3GP and MPEG4 files at 320x240 resolution. EDGE/GPRS and Wi-Fi are the primary modes of connectivity. Nokia has also included their Communities Social Networking app for Facebook and Twitter.

Setting up your POP/IMAP email account is also simple thanks to Nokia’s new email app. The C3 is equipped with a 2 megapixel camera and limited settings, but image quality is not bad at all. The C3’s battery performed really well, with an average talk time of over 5 hours. With a best price of about Rs 5,500, it makes for a great buy. Even if the keypad is totally warped, the overall functionality makes it worth consideration.

Solve the automatic update issue when using Kies

You start the update function of your smart phone Samsung Wave. However during the update, the device crashes due to an ‘Unexpected Error’. Even a restart does not help.
Nothing seems to work when an update process crashes. The slightly problematic programming of the recovery tool prevents anything from being displayed on the computer as well as the smart phone as a result of which
the hassled user gets no messages for seconds or even minutes together – yes of course, even the connection between the two devices seems disrupted although it is very much in place in reality and the restoration process is also very much on. Thus when the yellow triangle displays that the connection is broken, follow the instructions provided by the Samsung management tool (Kies). First disconnect the connection cable, remove the battery from the smart phone for a few seconds and re-insert it.

Press the keys [Volume], [Camera] and [OK]. An unusual image is now displayed on the phone, namely the ‘Download mode’ note in red font embedded in a blue box. Then reconnect the connection cable and start the Firmware Update normally. Don’t worry if the Samsung tool does not shows the connection. Only the usual progress bar needs to be displayed on the phone that shows the loading status of the new Firmware. If the software is completely loaded, you see the note ‘Firmware update is restored’ and then shortly after that ‘Update has been started’ .

In case of an error when updating Bada, the recommended procedure is of definite help.

ASUS N53SV

Laptop manufacturers are readying models powered by the new Intel Core i5 and Core i7 CPUs. A few brands like Asus already have models to off er and we managed to source a test unit of the Asus N53SV, which is a 15.6-inch powerhouse thanks to an Intel Core i7-2630QM processor, 4 GB of DDR3 memory and a discrete Nvidia GeForce GT540M GPU. Hyper Threading means this CPU can process eight threads at a time, and that’s immense amount of power.

The exterior is black, and the lid has a brushed aluminium-like finish. The large 15.6-inch display with a native resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels means this laptop is a bit on the bulkier side. At 2.8 Kg it’s not too heavy to carry around, and you get is a nice large keyboard with a separate numeric pad. The keyboard has a good tactile feel and so do the touchpad buttons. A tiny row of buttons above the keyboard control volume and media playback. A key feature is the incredible sound quality courtesy Bang & Olufsen ICEpower. The speakers are the best we’ve heard in a long time. Around the edges, you get four USB 2.0 ports, a card reader slot, HDMI output, Gigabit Etherne ,audio jacks, DVD writer and a switch for Wi-Fi. We were quite surprised to find USB 3.0 ports missing.

The i7-2630QM is more powerful than the new Sandy Bridge Core i5-2500K and almost as powerful as the Phenom II X6 1055T. It encoded a 1 min MPEG video to H.264 format in just 35 seconds—10 seconds faster than the Phenom II X4 965. The GeForce GT540M is powerful enough to handle Crysis Warhead smoothly at 37 fps in Mainstream mode. The six-cell battery lasted just over four hours under a light load and at reduced screen brightness. Priced at Rs 60,099 along with a laptop bag and mouse, this laptop is a great buy. The one-year global on-site warranty is also a plus point.

BRAG RB11

Although the gaming community is very large in India, branded and custom-built gaming PCs are a rare sight. It’s nice to see brands like Brag that specialize in custom-built gaming machines and home theater PCs. Brag is backed by Prime ABGB, a popular Mumbai-based PC hardware vendor. At present Brag has very few models to offer (see www.bragpc.com). We got our hands on the RB11, which is powered by the Intel Core i7-950 CPU, Sapphire Radeon HD 6870 graphics card, and 6 GB of G. Skill Ripjaws DDR3 memory configured in triple-channel.

That’s plenty of power to handle all the latest games as well as demanding applications. The rig is powered by the Corsair TX750W power supply and the hardware is fittted into the white NZXT Phantom cabinet. Brag has used the cable routing provision of the cabinet very well. All the power and SATA cables are neatly tied and routed from behind the right side panel. So there’s a lot of room for air circulation and the installation looks very tidy.

The storage is taken care of by a 1 TB Western Digital Caviar Green and the operating system (Windows 7 Home Premium, 64-bit) boots off a 40 GB OCZ Onyx SSD. The two optical drives round out the confi guration - a Blu-ray ROM drive and a DVD writer. The NZXT Phantom is equipped with a huge 200 mm fan on top, a pair of 120 mm intake fans on the side, and a 120 mm fan on the rear. The speed of the fans can be regulated via sliders on top. The cooling is excellent, but the downside is that the system will be prone to taking in a lot of dust.

The performance of the RB11 is excellent. The boot up and application loading is incredibly fast due to the SSD, and with the HD 6870, you can comfortably play games at 1920x1080 with very high settings and bumped up AA. Brag off ers 1 year on-site warranty, overclocked confi guration (provided you use a water cooler) and an option to configure the system with components of
your choice.

SUPER FLEXIBLE FILE SYNCHRONIZER PRO

File synchronization tools ensure that you don’t have to worry about keeping track of deleted files or the new files that need to be backed up.

Super Flexible File Synchronizer is a powerful fi le syncing tool that can synchronize data between two folders/ drives or FTP location. The software starts in Wizard mode, which walks you through the process of setting up the synch profile. You have to specify the source and destination locations, set the direction of synchronization and schedule.

The profile automatically runs as per schedule, or you can run it manually, or confi gure it to sync in real time. You can create multiple profiles, schedule them individually, encrypt and compress fi les at the destination, or use versioning to keep multiple backups. We recommend this software to both
beginners and advanced users.
Price: $34.90 (approx Rs 1,650)

MSI 870A-G54

The heart of the MSI 870A-G54 motherboard is the AMD 870 chipset coupled with the powerful and feature-rich SB850 Southbridge. The motherboard features two PCIe x16 slots for CrossFireX multi-GPU technology support, ideal for building a powerful gaming rig. The board is also future-proof, with six SATA 6 GB/s ports and two USB 3.0 interfaces for next generation high-speed storage drives, 8-channel audio support and a physical switch for automatic overclocking.
Though the motherboard’s layout is quite good, with accommodative SATA and IDE ports, the CPU’s voltage regulators lack a heatsink; a good, effi cient cooling case would be necessary in extreme conditions. While comparing pure performance scores, the ECS A875M-A managed to beat this one with a marginal difference, but since the additional features of a motherboard can actually boost the overall performance, the performance and superior feature-set combined to help the MSI 870A-G54 motherboard grab the Best Performance as well as the Best Value title in its category.

VERDICT: A feature-rich motherboard with a budget price tag.
FOR: Good layout, Good price, USB 3.0, CrossFireX support.
AGAINST: No heatsink for CPU voltage regulators.Price:5,000
